Alcario was born on March 28, 1938, to Thomas and Carmelita Chacón.
Alcario and his brothers grew up sheep herding in Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado. They tended over 5,000 head of sheep at a time.
At the age of 20, he met his lifelong love, Rosalia Aragon.
Alcario was preceded in death by his parents, Tomás and Carmelita, seven siblings and his daughter, Eva Sturdevant.
Alcario is survived by his wife, Rosalia of 64 years, nine of his ten children, five girls, five boys which he loved to say, "That's the way I ordered them", Eric (Loreda), Maclovia (Mike), Tommy (Judy) Amadeo (Adela), Carmelita (Leroy), Alex (Donna), Alcario, Eva, Theresita (Lance) and Veronica (Roy). Alcario is also survived by 28 grandkids, 36 great-grandkids and twp great- great-grandkids and one brother, Zebedeo Chacón (Lucinda).
Alcario's many careers included his lifelong passion for sheep herding, ranching, logging, mining, oilfield and the United States Forest Service, where he retired from.
Alcario was a devout Catholic and a Hermano/Penitente. Alcario always made sure that his family was taken care of. Everyone knew Alcario loved life and people. Everyone he met always became a friend. Alcario always treated everyone with respect, even though he was always joking. Therefore, those who knew him respected him tenfold.
Alcario was a big fan of bananas and blackberries. Alcario was always telling stories of his youth.
A public visitation will take place on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Gallina, NM, with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, June 2, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. also at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Gallina, NM and burial to follow at Gallina Community Cemetery in Gallina, NM. Pallbearers will be Matthew Chacón, Miguel Martínez, PJ Tafoya, Gabriel Chacón, José Martínez and Michael Chacón.
