Paul Hyde, 61, Dies in Indiana

Former Wichitan Son of A. A. Hyde

A former Wichitan, Paul H. Hyde, 67, son of the founder of the Mentholatum Co. died Friday at Indianapolis, Ind., while playing in driving rain at Western Senior Golf Tournament.

Friends said they understood he had suffered a heart attack about a year ago.

He had retired recently as president of the company which was founded here shortly before the turn of the century by the late pioneer Wichitan, A. A. Hyde.

Born here, he moved to Buffalo, N.Y., when the company's headquarters were moved there prior to his father's death in 1935.

He had played golf since he was a boy and won the Kansas State amateur championship in 1908. He is survived by his wife; a son, Edward K. Hyde III, who is vice president of Mentholatum; two daughters; three brothers, and two sisters. His brothers and sisters are all former Wichita residents.
