Son of John Aylan, a contractor and Rebecca (nee Adlington). In 1871 George was a Corporal in the 1st Battalion of the Royal East Kent Regiment, "The Buffs". He married Isabel Weston at the Parish Church in Plumstead, Kent on 3 May 1880. By 1881 he was a Sergeant, and an instructor of volunteers. In 1891 and 1901 he was a foreman at the Royal Arsenal, Woolwich. In 1911 he was in Coventry, working as the Chief Examiner of Fuzes at the Coventry Ordnance Works. In the 1921 census, he and his wife were recorded as visitors to Edward and Annie Marshall in Bedford. George died at the age of 81 and was buried on 17 November 1930. His mother's maiden name was Adlington.
