Marjorie B. Ackerman passed away peacefully at Home Again Memory Care in Waunakee, WI, at the age of 99. She was born in Boscobel on January 18, 1924, the daughter of Sylvester and Stella (Scheibl) Bernhardt and spent most of her life among caring family and friends in Cassville, WI.

Marjorie was a dedicated wife and mother who was beloved by many in her community. She spent many happy hours crafting; knitting and cross-stitching gifts that she shared freely with others. She enjoyed her daily walk around town even on snowy winter days, stopping to visit with neighbors in the post office, bank and grocery store.

She was a fiercely independent woman. Early in her career she managed her cousin's physician office in Racine, Wi. She returned and worked with Walter Okey in his meat market and grocery store. In 1947 she married Herbert Ackerman and subsequently followed him across southern Wisconsin as he operated heavy machinery on various road building projects. Marjorie and Herb returned to Cassville when construction started on the Wisconsin Power and Light plant. At the end of the construction, Herb took a position with WPL so that they could live in Cassville among family and friends and raise their daughter, Mary in the community where they both grew up. Marjorie moved to Home Again Assisted living in 2019 to be closer to Mary in Madison. She became a valued member of that residential community.

Marjorie is survived by her daughter Mary and husband, Paul Umbeck and her sisters Jeanne Rittenhouse (Cassville) and Nancy Safe (Aurora, CO). She is also survived by her much-loved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert, mother and father Stella and Sylvester "Dr. S. C." Bernhardt DVM and her brother William Bernhardt.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Cassville, with Father Gregory Ihm officiating. Burial will be held at St. Charles Cemetery, Cassville.
