Golden Anniversaries Marked

Sept. 17 Celebration
To Mark Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Carter, 2335 E. Prairie St., will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary Sept. 17 with a family dinner and a 2 to 4 p.m. open house in Scovill Gardens clubhouse.

The former Ava Barnett and Charles Carter were married Sept. 18, 1906, in Memphis, Tenn. They moved to the Decatur area in 1922 where Mr. Carter was employed by the Wabash Railroad Co. carshops until his retirement.

They are the parents of four children:
Mrs. Lee (Flossie) Walters of Decatur,
Mrs. A. H. (Goldie) Ferguson of Bethalto,
Mrs. Raymond (Cleo) Ozee of Sullivan,
Charles (Artie) Carter of Blue Mound.
There are 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Charles Carter dies at Sullivan

DECATUR, Ill. - Mrs. Charles (Ava) Carter, 80, of Decatur died at 7 a.m. Monday in Sullivan. She was the mother of Mrs. H. Raymond (Cleo) Ozee of Sullivan. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Decatur. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Decatur. Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Carter was born in Marshall County, Tenn., the daughter of William A. and Ellen Rainey Barnett. She married Charles R. Carter in Memphis, Tenn. Sept. 18, 1906. He died in 1967.

Survivors include two other daughters, Mrs. Leo (Flossie) Walter of Decatur and Mrs. H.A. (Goldie) Ferguson of Bethalto; a brother, Bodie Barnett of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a sister, Mrs. Charles (Maxine) Sanders of Lewisburg, Tenn.; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. One son preceded her in death. Mrs. Carter was a member of the Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church and the Wabash Carmen Association Auxiliary.
