Dora was born May 12, 1826 in Irwin County, GA, the daughter of Joseph Fletcher and Mary Ann (Hendley) Fletcher. Dora died July 21, 1883. She is buried in the Umatilla. Fl cemetery close to Mt. Dora re working in the area. In 1883, Mount Dora became the name of the town.


Dora married James Drawdy of Virginia, and after he died she married his cousin William (1828-1862). The Drawdys were an early settler family of Mount Dora, Florida. Lake Dora was named in her honor by US Government surveyors who were appreciative of her kindness and hospitality.

Dora Ann is one of the original pioneers of Mt. Dora, Florida and for whom the town was named. She originally traveled from Georgia to Florida with William J. Drawdy. She was originally married to James Drawdy, William's first cousin, and had 3 children by him. After his death, she married William and they moved to Mt. Dora, FL. Some records state that she had 6 children while others say 9 children. Dora Ann's husband, William Drawdy (1828-1862) died in the Civil War. James and William had different parents but the same grandparents.

According to "Fletchers of Irwin County and Their Kin", James Drawdy(1822-1848)and Dora Ann Fletcher's children were: Mary b. 1844, Daniel b. 1846 and Martha Ann Drawdy b. 1848.
