Leone Eleen Creery was born 10-Nov-1910 in Spirit Lake, IA to Chester Creery b. 1881 in Illinois and Ethel May West b. 1890 Spirit Lake, IA. Leone was an only child until the age of 8 when her sister, Dorothy Ellen Creery was born in Oct 1918. Leone's parents were divorced in 1921 and her mother, Ethel, remarried to Elmer Becker in 1922. Elmer and Ethel had a daughter, Doris Becker b. 1923, but then moved to Minneapolis, MN so Elmer could get a better job.

Leone, as the eldest, was quite a caretaker and helped her mother a lot. Her mother had heart problems due to Scarlet Fever when she was a young child. Three more siblings were born to the Becker family, Barbara b. 1924, James b. 1926 and Gerald b. 1929. At that time, Elmer desserted the family leaving Ethel to take care of six children.

In 1930, Ethel was working as a cook at the Andrews Hotel and Leone was a waitress. About that time Leone met Alric Rystedt b. 1908 in Varmland, Sweden. Then on 29 May 1932 Leone and Alric married.

Alric and Leone were both so helpful to Ethel and they enjoyed nurturing Leone's younger siblings. They had a car and took the whole family on outings. They also went to Iowa periodically to visit the West and Creery families. Leone's siblings say they would never have been able to do so many things without the help of the Rystedts!

Leone and Alric tried to have children and at one time Leone thought she was pregnant. Several months into the pregnancy the family gave her a shower and then found out that in fact there was "female trouble" not pregnancy. Leone had a hysterectomy squashing their hopes of a family. But they continued to love and help her siblings as much as they could.

Leone became an expert on many subjects: canaries, cats, knitting machine, violets, gardening, belonged to the Pythian Sisters, photography, a voracious reader, excellent cook, etc. - she was a renaissance woman!

Leone died young but not without leaving her family with a sense of - family! Thank you Auntie Leone - we miss you even yet!
