BAR HARBOR On Nov. 16, 2019, Don Hall, 74, passed away peacefully after a brief illness. Even in his death, Don found the positive in life and had the time to say goodbye to those he loved.

Don maintained a strong connection to Maine throughout his life. Growing up, he spent his summers on Quimby Pond in Rangeley surrounded by family. As an adult, he and his young family moved to Bar Harbor in 1973, where they remained and where he eventually built his home.

Don's passion for boats led to a career in boatbuilding and as a boat captain. He spent years traveling up and down the East Coast, spending summers on Mount Desert Island and winters on the boat in Florida. When he retired, The Captain returned to MDI to enjoy island life year-round.

Don was a remarkable father and a loving grandfather, known for having a box of animal crackers for the grandchildren at every visit. His children were his priority. He encouraged them in whatever they chose to pursue and offered a calm and steady voice no matter the circumstances. He taught them to always find the positive in life.

Don is survived by his son, Chris, and daughter-in-law, Hope, of Cumberland; his daughter, Jennifer, and son-in-law, Scott, of Milan, Ohio; four grandchildren, Lila and her husband Ethan, Tess, Sean and George; two great-grandchildren, Max and Astro; and his special friend, Brenda Smith. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Willetta and Don, and his older sister, Mally. A family celebration of life will be held for Don at a later date.
