Newkirk, published Sunday, May 25 1913 in Wilimington NC newspaper, Wilmington Star Sun, Catherine died when Bryant was three years old which would have been 1837. The same obituary states that Catherine's mother-in-law, Rachel Rhodes Newkirk, raised Catherine's four children after Catherine died at the old Newkirk homestead where Bryant was born and died.
