Born Wednesday, January 2, 1929 in Winn Parish, Louisiana, she was preceded in death by her parents, Lucy O'Bryan Pierce and Oliver Pierce; husband, Charles Abels; son, Mark Abels; grandson, Justin Smith; and siblings, J. C. and Ray Pierce.
Mrs. Abels was an active member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she served in the nursery and as a Sunday School Teacher. She was often found in her kitchen, cooking for her family, and spending time outdoors. She loved gardening and tending to her flowers. She cared for her children and grandchildren for many years and spent much of her time making sure everyone was fed by always having a full meal on the table. Her love of her family and of the Lord lay at the very core of her existence. She was often found on Sunday mornings chauffeuring her group of friends to church and caring for her church family by serving in the kitchen.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Betty Anderson (Jerry), Cathy Howell (Mike), Teresa Abels, and Marty Abels (Carmen); six grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and eight great great grandchildren; and a numerous number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Bethlehem Baptist Church, from 1:00 PM until time of graveside services.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Bethlehem Cemetery with Rev. Mike Howell and Rev. Wayne Morrow officiating
