Jane Ann (Vasto) Aluise, 100 years, 6 months and 12 days of age, departed this life on December 26, 2008 at the Teresian House in Albany, New York, where she had been residing for her last 9 ½ years and was well taken care of and loved by all.

The last surviving member of the Joseph and Rose (Pagano) Vasto family from Giardini-Naxos, Italy, Jane was born June 14, 1908 in Ravena, New York. She was a very kindhearted person and mother always there to help. She dearly loved her home in Ravena, where she lived most of her life. You could always find her taking care of her many flowers or in the kitchen baking and cooking.

Besides her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Sylvester John Aluise, whom she married in Ravena on July 27, 1930 and who departed this life on January 18, 1989; her siblings: Carmin, Katherine, Josephine, Sam and two brothers that didn't survive infancy; and her eldest nephew, Joseph Carmen Vasto.

She was survived by her only son, Blaise Paul Aluise, and his wife, Glen Ann, of Delmar; her granddaughters, Jacqueline (Aluise) Mann of Maryland and Susan Aluise of Delmar; her great-grand-triplets, Jesse, Kaitlin and Megan Mann; a sister-in-law, Monique (Jouas) Vasto of Florida; her younger nephew, Carmin Francis Vasto of Ravena; and her niece, Rosemary (Vasto) Johnston of Florida.

Mass was held on Monday, December 29, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Teresian House Chapel. A calling hour preceded the Mass from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Teresian House in the Williamsberg Room.
