Son of Moritz and Johanna Groff.
Baptized at St. Anne Cathilic Church in Jennings County, Indiana on May 25 1847.

Family farm was in Redding Twp, Jackson County, Indiana just east of Rockford.

Alexander was a brickmaker in Seymour, Indiana.
He was in Jonesboro, Arkansas in the 1900 census.
Family story was that he went west and by 1908 they presumed that he had died since no one had heard from him for 5 years.

However - He had gone to Oklahoma and acquired land in the lottery. Story is also that he met his wife Mattie while he was working for the railroad there.

He married Martha "Mattie" Snider Bush and they had two sons Charles Maurice and Archie. Mattie had 4 sons from her first marriage to Walt Bush.

He returned to brickmaking after they were married and family story says he made all the bricks for the Minco elementary school.

His wife Mattie died in 1951 and is buried at the Evergreen Cemetery in Minco, Grady County.
