Billy Joe McDowell age 91 of Sachse, Texas passed away May 15, 2023.

Billy was born May 1, 1932 in Aikin Grove Texas to Lee Roy and Oma Melton McDowell.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years Ann Burrow McDowell, and son Mackie Lynn. His parents Lee Roy and Oma McDowell, brothers Derrell and Carroll McDowell, sister DeLoyce Nichols.

He is survived by his brother Bobby McDowell, and wife, Jeanette of Quitman Texas. His daughters Patricia Richardson of Leonard, Texas, Linda Johnson and husband Barry of Garland, Texas, Joanne McDowell of Sachse, Texas. And his favorite girl, his Chihuahua Lucy Belle. 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.

Billy lived a full life, as a child he mended small animals and saved his horse that the vet wanted to put down using grandma's snuff and his mother's needle and thread he sewed his horse up that had run into a barbed wire fence.

He was also a cowboy helping move herds and worked in a dairy.

Another trade he learned from his father was working on cars. He became a mechanic, owned his own station and later a repair shop. A trade he in turn passed on to his son Mackie.

After retiring he used yet another skill he had learned from his father woodworking. He created all kinds of beautiful family heirlooms and passed the skills to his daughter.

He loved his parents to the day he died he talked about his mother's fried chicken and caramel cake, and all the wonderful things that his father had taught him with love. He Loved sharing stories of growing up with anyone who would listen. He loved his family dearly and showed it in so many ways, including helping raise his grandchildren and great grandchildren like they were his own.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Aikin Grove cemetery with Calvin Burrow officiating. Burial is under the direction of the Clarksville Funeral Home.
