Howard graduated in 1967 from Bacon County High School, Alma, Georgia and went on to earn a degree in architecture from Florida A & M University. He served his country in the U. S. Army in Germany and Viet Nam, where he earned the Bronze Star. During his tour in Germany, he met his wife of almost 20 years, Barbara Finzel Huckaby. They were married in June, 1971, she preceded him in death February 13, 1991. Howard owned and operated a very successful business, Huckaby Communications, Evaluation and Design, Inc., from 1982 until his retirement in 2014.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two older brothers, John J. Huckaby and Willie Hiram Huckaby. He is survived by his fiancée of 28 years, Mary-Kathryn Buford of Tallahassee, FL; sister, Jimmie Lavada Gladden of Fairhope, AL; brothers, Chester Huckaby, Jr. (Mary) of Bryson City, NC; and Thomas Coy Huckaby (Karen) of Clarksville, FL, several nieces and nephews and many friends.
A celebration of his life will be held at Bevis Funeral Home of Tallahassee on May 20, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. with a reception to follow. Following the reception, inurnment will take place at Travelers Rest Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery of Clarksville, FL.
