Elizabeth Ann "Tootie" Harshbarger, 89, of Galesburg, Illinois, died at home Wednesday, May 10, 2023.

Elizabeth was born March 19, 1934, in Kirkwood, Illinois, the daughter of Frederick R. and Margaret Anne (Sward) Scalf. She was united in marriage to James Jay Harshbarger on December 17, 1952, in Streator, Illinois. Their 63-year marriage brought three children, sons, Desi Harshbarger of Galesburg and James (Ute) Harshbarger of Orlando, Florida; and daughter, Connie McMillan of Knoxville, Illinois. Her legacy also lives on with 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Her brother Bud Scalf of Galesburg survives as does her sister, Barbara Howarter of Maryville, Tennessee. Tootie was preceded in death by her husband, Jim on May 15, 2015; as well as her parents; a son-in-law, Bob McMillan; and three brothers, Jimmy, Jerry, and Carroll.

Tootie worked at Galesburg CUSD#205 for 23 years in the cafeteria, retiring in 1989. She continued cleaning houses until she retired in 2015. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Galesburg. She loved to be at her country home tending to the yard and her flowers and garden. Tootie also leaves behind her beloved Yorkie, Mandy Jo.

Cremation has been accorded. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 19, 2023, at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Pastor Phil Pieper officiating. A celebration of life will follow graveside services at the Thomas Legacy Center. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Memorial contributions may be made to Knox County Humane Societ
