Born April 1, 1921 in Davidson County, Mrs. Craven was the daughter of the late William Andrew and Ethel Tatum Hannah. Her late husband was John Braxton Craven, and her late son was John Braxton Craven Jr.
She attended the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina in Greensboro.
She was a member of First United Methodist church, where she had served on the board of trustees and on the administrative board.
From 1958 to 1988, she served as secretary-treasurer of Craven Insurance Agency. She also served as director and chairman of the board of Davidson Federal Savings Bank,as a director of Dixie Furniture Co., and of Regency Bancshares.
Her civic activities included trustee of Lexington Memorial Hospital, director of the United Way, Red Cross, and the City Club. She was a member of the Charity League, O'Henry Study Club, and Lexington Women's Investment Club.
Surviving are three daughters, Dolly C. Denton of Roxboro, Cynthia Hoyt and husband, Charles, of Jacksonville, and Hannah Craven and husband, David Funk, of Arlington, Va.; six grandchildren, Katherine D. Solomon, Margaret C. Denton, H. Elizabeth Fouts, John D. Craven, Jack Funk and Peter Funk; and two great-grandchildren, Logan A. Solomon and Natalia K. Edwards-Fouts.
