Dona Ash, 72, a former resident of Chiloquin and Crescent, died July 9, 2001, in a Medford hospital after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Ash was born May 3, 1929, in Coos Bay to Al and Jean (Vandenberg) Shadley.She lived with her family in Chiloquin for many years before moving to Crescent and attending school in Gilchrist. The next family move was to Trail and, while there, she graduated from Prospect High School.While at Southern Oregon University, she married Ben Ash on Dec. 20, 1947, in Prospect.She later received her teacher's degree from the university, then moved to Myrtle Point, where she taught school for several years and raised her three children.Following her retirement, she and her husband moved to Coos Bay. They had a fishing boat built by her husband, but when he preceded her in death, she moved to Bend to be closer to her son. Mrs. Ash enjoyed reading, travel, going on elder trips, gambling, and visiting family members and friends. She had a love for all animals, especially cats. She was a member of Fisherman Wives Club, Teachers Association, Order of The Eastern Star, Rose Society, Daughters of the Nile, Fraternal Order of Lady Eagles, Delta Kappa Gamma, and, since she was 10 years old, Su Gool-Hi-Hoose-Kungs Camp Fire Girls. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Donetta and Tom Perry of Eagle Point; son and daughter-in-law, Wade and Lori Ash of Union; grandchildren, T.J. and Misty Perry of Eagle Point, Katie, Kelley, Ben and Gus Ash of Union, Sarah Ash of Newsoms, Va., and Spirit Ash of Bend; and numerous other relatives and friends.In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Bert Ash.
