Betty Margaret Johnsen Lundsted was born to John Johnsen Lundsted and Birgit Oselie (Haugher) Lundsted, both originally of Oslo, Norway. She was a member of the American Federation of Astrologers as well as the National Council of Geocosmic Research. For the council, she served as the Chairman of the Education NYC chapter from 1977-1979 and was also the National Conference Coordinator for 1978-1980.
Betty was on the board of directors at Nicolas-Hays, Inc located in York Beach, Maine.

She was known for her strong organizational skills. She met her husband, who was a book publisher and antiquarian through her job as a freelance writer, and her job with Samuel Weiser, a publisher. Although they would divorce in Denver, Colorado on 28 October, 1970, Betty and Donald would continue to work together on different projects.
