OTTAWA – Dennis L. "Denny" Hoersten, 74, of Ottawa, passed away at 7:32 p.m. on Friday, May 12, 2023, at Mercy Health St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.

He was born December 14, 1948, in Lima to the late Lawrence and Donelda (Deck) Hoersten.

Denny is survived by two sisters: Shirley Hoersten of Ottawa, and Dolores Shumaker of Delphos; nieces and nephews: Mark, Greg, and Brian Shumaker, Karen Shumaker, Marci Hughes, and Cindy Shumaker; and great-nephews: Matthew Radaszewski and Kaden Shumaker.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Bill Shumaker.

Denny had retired from Sts. Peter and Paul School, where he had done maintenance.

He enjoyed going to tractor shows, and steam engine train rides. Denny loved anything John Deere.

Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa with Fr. Scott Kramer officiating. Burial will follow in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3 – 8 p.m. at Love Funeral Home, Ottawa and again on Wednesday from 9 to 10 a.m. A scripture service will start at 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to a charity of the donor's choice.
