Jacob Earl "Jake" Lehl was born in 1904 to Heinrich "Henry" Lehl and Ione Pauline "Onie" Sutton Lehl in Greeley Colorado. He was one of five children and grew up on his parent's farm.

His father was a German born in Norka, Russia, who came to the USA with his parents, one aunt and several siblings in 1890. Henry was 10 years old. Jake's mother Onie was born in Mississippi and moved to Colorado with her parents and siblings. I don't know the exact date, but Onie was listed in the 1880 Mississippi Census as a 3 year old child. They were in the 1900 Arapaho, Colorado Census.

Jake grew up in the Depression and worked as a very young man on the railroad and that was his life-long occupation. He married first Dorothy Muriel Bellwood and she was my mother's (Sherry Wanda Lehl) mother. Dorothy died when my mother was a baby. Jake then married Leota M. Wentz. They had four children: Richard, Carol, Kenneth and Clarke.

RIP Grandpa,
Barbara Hale Reynolds
