Odelia (pronounced "oh-dee-lee-uh") was known as "Odel" (pronounced "oh-deel"). She was the sixth of 13 children born to Cornelius Mathias "Neil" Daleiden and Katherine Marie "Katie/Kate" Wertzler in Hampton, Minnesota. Neil married Kate on 29 Jan 1901 in one of the first, if not the first, marriage ceremony conducted in Saint Mathias Catholic Church in Hampton, Dakota County, Minnesota. Odel spent her childhood in Hampton as the daughter of the town's furniture maker, coffin maker, and mortician. Odel's large family was very active in the St. Mathias Catholic Church. Her parents also owned a farm in Randolph County for several years so that she and her siblings could attend high school there. While living on the farm, her brother Al was the "bus driver" for their family as he drove himself and his siblings to school in their horse-drawn wagon.

In 1930, Odel is living in her parents' home but by 1932 she is living in St. Paul and working as a stenographer. Odel married George Donald Ricker on 30 Dec 1937. In 1940, George is a service manager for a garage. George and Odel had three children. They lived the latter part of their life together in Stuart, Florida.

Odel passed away at the age of 84 in 1993. George joined Odel in 2002. They are both buried in Forest Hills Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Stuart, Florida.
