Leslie Gray Hancock entered eternal life on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at his home surrounded by family at the age of 91 years. He was born on May 6, 1932 in Bishopville, Texas to his parents, James Monroe and Minnie Bishop Hancock.

Leslie received his education in Elliott. He quit school in the 6h grade to work in the fields. He was unable to enlist in the military due to his asthma so he continued to work in several different kinds of professions. He went to work for W.F. Sanders Lumber Company as a truck driver. He then went to Vitro Tech before having an accident there in 1966. He later was employed with Buck Mathis in construction and Hearne Cotton Compress. After many years, Leslie retired, only to get tired of being retired and went back to work for the county driving a dump truck. In 1998, Leslie retired again for the last time and enjoyed his retirement. He was a member of the Golden Rule Masonic Lodge in Hearne.

Leslie accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior at a young age. He was not only life-time member of the Elliott Baptist Church but also the Elliott Community. He received the nickname "Pumpkin" from his mother when he was a child and then became known as Uncle Punk to his entire family. Teasing was one of his strongest character traits and was his way of showing he liked you. One of Leslie's favorite past times was coon hunting and it was always a special treat to coon hunt with his brother, Wayne.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Minnie Hancock; daughter, Mary Ann Harper; brothers, Travis Hancock, James Hancock and Wayne Hancock; sisters, Opal Green and Eddie Ruth Barnett.

Leslie leaves behind to cherish his memory, daughter, Karen Hancock of Franklin; sons and daughters-in-law, Leslie and Linda Hancock of Franklin, Rodney and Trudy Hancock of Franklin, sister and brother-in-law, Annette and Buddy Nichols of Friendswood, 6 grandchildren: Crystle Gustavus and Chris, Bobbie Collins and Nathan, Shannon Martel and Rick, Mitchell Threadgill and Carolyn, Leslie Hancock, III and Rainie, Rebekah Callaway, Tiffany McCarver and Dylan Harper.
