Brazilian Singer, Songwriter and Composer. Widely regarded as Brazil's "Queen of Rock," she was central to Brazil's politically charged Tropicalia movement, which emerged in defiance of a military dictatorship starting in 1964. With more than 20 albums recorded and 55 million records sold, her songs, often censored, touched on issues related to feminism and sex in an era when such issues were taboo. She gained fame in the 1960s with the band 'Os Mutantes,' then played with the band 'Tutti Frutti' in the 1970s, which broke up at the end of the decade, leading her to start a solo career, creating songs that mixed rock, pop and Brazilian music. In addition to her music career, she is known for her eccentric personality and environmental activism. She has received several awards and is considered a legend of Brazilian music. In November 2022, she was recognized with the Latin Grammys Lifetime Achievement Award in Las Vegas but was not able to attend the ceremony due to her worsening lung cancer, which was diagnosed in 2021.
