Hall of Fame College Basketball Coach. As head coach at the University of Louisville (1971 to 2001), he is remembered for helming the Cardinals to two NCAA Titles (1980 and 1986). Born Denzel Edwin Crum, he played collegiate basketball under legendary coach John Wooden at UCLA. He began his lengthy coaching career as an assistant at Pierce Junior College in Los Angeles and served as head coach from 1967 to 1967. He rejoined Wooden at UCLA as an assistant and was on staff when the school captured three NCAA Titles. During the course of his career, he was named Coach of the Year three-times (1980, 1983 and 1986 and guided Louisville to 23 total tournament berths. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1994.
