Mr. James Allen Powell age 83, of Somerset passed away on Wednessday May 3, 2023 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. He was born on July 2, 1939 in Rockcastle County the son of the late Bradley and Floy Ketron Powell. He was a retired train master with the CSX Railroad, was a member of the Masonic Lodge, a 1958 graduate of the Brodhead High School, an 82nd Airborne Ranger Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, enjoyed collecting pocket knives, playing bluegrass music, hunting, farming, and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors are: two sons; James Bradley Powell of Berea, and Brent Allen Powell of Mt.Vernon. One daughter; Cheral Renee Purcell of Corbin. Three brothers; Jesse Powell of Berea, George Powell of Mt.Vernon, and Frank Powell of Berea. Four sisters; Freda Clark, Martha Fowler, and Mary Hill all of Mt.Vernon, and Frances McKeehan of Berea. Four grandchildren, and two great grandchildren also survive. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by: his wife; JoAnn Arnold Powell, by three brothers; Albert, John and Willie Powell, and by one sister; Virginia Powell,

Funeral services for Mr. James Allen Powell will be conducted at 1 PM on Sunday May 7, 2023 at the Cox Funeral Home with Bro. Dennis Wilder officiating. Burial will follow in the Powell Family Cemetery.

Arrangements are by the Cox Funeral Home where friends may visit from 11:30 AM until time of service on Sunday.
