Jason C Bradeen was born April 7, 1827 in Milo, Maine, son of John Bradeen and Hannah Webber. Jason served in the army in 1861 with Company D, 2nd Regiment, Maine Volunteers. Jason married a cousin, Emily D Bradeen, daughter of Oliver Bradeen. Emily died October 5, 1864 at the age of 32, leaving four children, Oliver Fremont, Sarah Emily, Luc Etta, and Maria. On March 5, 1865, Jason married Sarah Ann Gould, daughter of George and Eliza Gould of Milo, Maine. She was his children's schoolteacher. Jason and Sarah with Oliver, Sarah and Lucy let Milo by train and settled at Dennison, Iowa. Four more children were born: Charles, Jenny, George and Crawford. When they left Maine, the baby Maria was adopted by a family in Maine. Jason and family came to Antelope County about 1870. They settle in Ord township. A sod house was built to house the growing family. During this time, more children were born: Wilbur, Melvin, Frank and twins Albert Earl and Alberta Pearl. Jason became paralyzed in both legs and one arm in the 1870's and the oldest son, Oliver, took over the family. The family moved into a wooden house in 1882 or so. Edna May was born on July 1, 1882. Jason and Sarah separated in 1890 and Sarah took her children to Battle Creek, Michigan. Jason went to live with Oliver and died in 1889. The children of Jason and his first wife Emily, all married in Nebraska. Lucy Etta married Henry Trowbridge, 10 children. Sarah Emily married a man by the name of Reynolds. He went west to seek his fortune and never returned. Oliver Fremont married May Trowbridge, nine children. Several of Jason Bradeen's descendants still live in Antelope County.
