HOWARD GLEN ALLEN, IUKA

Howard Glen Allen, 66, of Route 2, Iuka, the road commissioner for Romine township in Marion county, was found dead by his wife and son yesterday evening on the family farm.

Mr. Allen was born on Jan. 14, 1910, in Romine township, the son of Fred and Florence (Propes) Allen.

On Oct. 21, 1932, he was married in Centralia to Marie Clifton, who survives.

He was a former employee of the Marion County Highway Department.

He was a member and deacon of the Christian Home General Baptist church.

Funeral services for Mr. Allen will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix, with the Rev. Johnny Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Needmore cemetery near Orchardville.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. Wednesday.

In addition to his wife, Marie, Mr. Allen is survived by son, Leland, and daughter-in-law Lois Allen, of Iuka; two grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Mabel Michael, Iuka, Mrs. Alita Sater, Texaco, and Mrs. Onita Ayers, Kell.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother.

NOTE: Authorities were uncertain this morning whether he was a victim of an accident or died of natural causes.

Marion County Deputy Coroner Roger Campbell reported this morning that Mr. Allen was found dead on his tractor. He had been pushing a log up an incline with the tractor, and authorities speculate that the log might have swung back and struck him, fatally injuring him. Mrs. Allen and son Leland had gone looking for Mr. Allen when he did not return to the house when expected. He was found at about. 7:30 p.m.

Campbell said an autopsy would be conducted this morning in an attempt to determine whether death had been natural or the result of an accident. There was no indication of foul play.
