Evelyn Hope Hussey West was the second daughter of Jesse James Hussey and Sadie Johnson. She was the mother of Gerry Leron West and Ronald Wayne West. She was the sister of Bennie Hussey Guillory.

Evelyn, known as Bunch, was an Army wife from 1952 until her husband's retirement in 1975. She lived in Japan and Germany, as well as Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona, and Louisiana. In retirement, she found a home in Shreveport, Louisiana, and enjoyed her three grandchildren, Sharon, Michael, and James West.

Obituary as printed by The Shreveport Times:
Mrs. Evelyn Hope Hussey West -- Shreveport, LA. -- Services for Mrs. Evelyn Hope Hussey West, 65, of Shreveport, will be conducted Friday, July 26, 1991 at 10:00 AM, at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, LA. Officiating will be the Rev. J. C. Clement assisted by the Rev. Earl Harris.

Mrs. West entered into rest Tuesay, July 23, 1991 at the 2nd Strategic Hospital, Barksdale Air Force Base, La. after and extended illness. She was born October 9, 1925 at Lone Pine, Evangeline Parish, La. As a good Army wife, she traveled to various parts of the world with her soldier husband. Although she lived in Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona, Japan and Germany, Shreveport became home for the last 27 years.

Except for her home and family, the church was the hub of her life. As she moved from place to place, she always tried to be involved in a Southern Baptist Church. She taught adults in the United States, Germany and Japan. In Japan she was active in the Tokyo Chapel Center and participated in Southern Baptist organizations and activities. Her two sons were baptized in a small Japanese church built with Lottie Moon offering funds. During her three years in Germany, she taught the only adult Bible class at the Protestant Chapel, Wharton Barracks, Heilbronn. She used Southern Baptist literature provided by her home church, Centerville Baptist Church in Evangeline Parish. As she taught, her goal was to lead people to use Christ's teaching in their daily life. She is now a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church.

She is survived by her devoted husband of almost 49 years, Master Sergeant Leron E. West: two sons, the Rev. Gerry L. West, and his wife, Katherine Sebren West, of Shreveport, and Ronald W West, and his wife, Margaret Berthelot West, of Spring, Texas; three grandchildren. Sharon D. West, of Shreveport, Michael W West and James S West of Spring, Texas; one sister, Bonnie E Guillory of Ville Platte, La; and a nephew, James E Guillory, also of Ville Platte. Evelyn leaves behind many friends around the world, and she will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Pallbearers will be Michael W. West, James S. West, Bill Scotto, James E. Guillory, David West, Forest Conely, Michael Matranga, and Richard Dunbar.

With our deepest gratitude, the family acknowledges the compassionaate, caring, professional services of the doctors, nurses and medical technicians at 2nd Strategic Hospital, Barksdale Air Force Base, who so capably and professionally adminitered to Evelyn's medical needs during the past several difficult months.

Visitation will be at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home Thursday evening from 5 - 9 PM.
