Mary was born to Joseph and Anna Fravel, of German and Swiss heritage, and a descendent of John "The Immigrant" Hottel. She was married to Levi Claypool on December 12, 1821 in Lost River, and had 9 children whom survived to maturity: Norton F., Ellinda, Felix W., Catherine, Harrison H., Louisa, Jacob M., Cecelia and Rebecca B. She shares her stone with her husband and three children who died during childhood: Jane, Joseph and Mary.
