Betty Rust, 95, of Nevada, formerly of Webb and Spencer, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2008 at Rolling Green Village in Nevada.

Funeral services will be held today, Friday, March 14, 2008 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Webb. Rev. Julie McCullough will officiate the 11 a.m. service. Burial will at in Garfield Cemetery in Webb at a later date.

Elizabeth "Betty" Beal Palmer Rust, the daughter of Charles Henry Palmer and Elizabeth Beal Twiss, was born Oct. 12, 1912 in Delhi. She spent her early years in Concord, N.H. before moving back to Iowa. Following graduation from Delhi High School, she attended Grinnell College and graduated in 1935 with a degree in music. She taught music in Webb, Garfield, Gillett Grove and Spencer.

On June 17, 1939 she married Noel Rust in Delhi. The couple lived in Spencer for two years before moving to the Webb area, where they farmed for many years. She spent the last eight years in Ames.

Mrs. Rust was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Eastern Star, and the Women's Harmony Study Club. She taught piano lessons in her home and enjoyed singing solos and singing in choir.

Mrs. Rust was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Noel Rust. She is survived by three sons: Kim Rust of Denver, Robert and Linda Rust of Webb, and Phillip and Dorothy Rust of Ames; family members Vernon Walsh of Minnesota and Donna Schultz of Colorado; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
