Martha grew up with her older sister, Barbara in Bevier and attended the local schools. After her schooling, she worked as a waitress at the local restaurant and also trained horses. She met Russell Mayhew and the rest is history. The happy couple was married on Sept. 1, 1957. To this union was born their son, Ken, who was the joy of her life. During this time, her husband began his career as a professional photographer when pictures were only done in black and white. Martha was also working alongside him and did the coloring and touch-up of the photos.

Later, the couple moved to Booneville and she began working at McGraw Hill. Some of her hobbies included puzzels, game shows, gardening and working with her horses. She had a horse named Rebel that lived over 30 years. A few years ago, she moved to New London to live with her son.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Russell.
