Roy was born in Chicago Illinois on 12 December 1900 to German born father Richard August Clawes, and Denmark born mother Betty "Bessie" Danielson, both whom imigrated at a very young age to the US. Roy and his brother Russell R. Clawes were known as harmless but anoying and funny pranksters when youngsters.
For many years Roy, and wife Jessie and children Betty, Rich and Bobby lived in the same building on North Rockwell Street in Chicago with his parents and brother Russell, and his wife Mae and chldren Charlotte and Leslie Clawes. It was like one big happy family. They all interacted on a daily basis and got along great together. He lived in Chicago all his life along with most of the relatives. Roy retired from Illinois Bell Telephone Company where other family members and friends worked and retired also. His passion was to fish up in Wisconson on Flambu de Lake. The family would retreat there many times and all loved it. I was told fondly by Jessie that back when they were dating he drove a red roadster. I believe she said it had a rumble seat. He lived in the Chicago area all his life with many relatives. He died at home on 26 October 1959. He was 58 years, 10 months, 2 weeks old.
