Punta Gorda, Nov. 19 - Funeral Services were held today for Joshua Mizell, 81, a native Floridian and a former state Republican Leader who died at his home here Sunday. Mr. Mizell was born in Hernando County and as a child moved to Pine Level, once the county seat of Manatee County, and grew up in the South Florida Cattle business. His career include serving as first county Judge of DeSoto County after it was formed in 1887 and was postmaster here from 1896 to 1909. He had been a member of the State Republican Executive committee, a member of the Punta Gorda City Council and was a deputy collector of customs at Manatee about 50 years ago. © The Tribune, Tampa, FL, 20 Nov 1961
