Ida J. Crawford, 96, of Mondovi passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at The Homeplace Haven in Mondovi.
She was born March 19, 1911, in Eleva to Samuel and Barbara (Meyer) Bollinger. She was a graduate of Eleva High School and attended Eau Claire Normal School for one year. Ida married Artman Welke, who died in World War II while in the Navy. She later married Gorden Crawford who died in 1985. Ida was an operator for the Cleghorn Telephone Co., and worked as an inspector at Gibbs Manufacturing, a government parts manufacturer in Janesville. In 1976, she and Gorden returned to Mondovi. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Dorcas Circle and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, baking and doing handiwork. Ida loved to travel, especially when going to visit her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the second youngest of 16 children, and became the last surviving sibling.
She is survived by a daughter, Karen Hodgens of Brockton, Mass.; two grandchildren, Juliann (Thomas) Colombo of Moorestown, N.J., and Jennifer (Peter) Furia of East Bridgewater, Mass.; six great-grandchildren, Gianna, Cecilia, Gracie and AJ Columbo, and Lucien and Lauren Furia; a sister-in-law, Myrtle Bollinger of Mondovi; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Ida was preceded in death by her husbands; her son-in-law, Joseph Hodgens Jr.; her parents; and 15 brothers and sisters, Elizabeth Heike, Anna Heck, Oswald Bollinger, Leonard Bollinger, Matilda Myren, Erwin Bollinger, Roland Bollinger, Otto Bollinger, Arno Bollinger, Samuel Bollinger, Belva Rose, Leona Bollinger, Albert Bollinger and two infant boys.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 17, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mondovi, with the Rev. Paul Woebbeking officiating. Burial will be at Oak Park Cemetery in Mondovi.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 16, at Kjentvet-Smith Funeral Home in Mondovi, and one hour before services Monday at the church.
