Mr. Hutchinson enlisted in the Confederate States Army in Pike County, Arkansas on 5 March 1862 as a private in Company C, 19th Regiment, Arkansas Infantry, and was in active service until the end of the War. He participated in the battles of Pea Ridge and Arkansas Post. He accompanied General Sterling Price on his expedition in the fall of 1864 throughout northwest Arkansas, southwest Missouri, parts of Kansas, and Oklahoma. He mustered out in 1865 in Washington, Arkansas.
