Son of Benjamin G. & Carmen P. Sanford who resided in Seaford, Delaware during the war.

Brother of Joseph Sanford.

Benjamin served as a Ship's Cook Second Class, U.S.S. Bowers (DE-637), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in Atlantic City, Atlantic County, New Jersey prior to the war.

He was "Killed In Action" when the Bowers was hit by a Japanese kamikaze off Okinawa during the war. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

He had served in the Navy for two years and one month at the time of his death.

He was originally interred in the Okinawa 7th Division Cemetery and was later repatriated here on February 17, 1949.
