She graduated from Manhattan High School in 1975. In 1978 she received her Radiology Technology degree from Hutchinson Community College and began her 41-year career at Saint John's Hospital in Leavenworth. She was a dedicated employee who brought compassion, care and understanding along with a contagious laugh and a sense of humor to help comfort and reassure her patients.
Outside of work, nothing brought her more pride and joy than her four grandchildren. Susan loved spending time with them whether it was at home, out to dinner, ballpark/soccer field or at a dance recital. She loved and enjoyed being an everyday part of her grandbabies lives.
On May 29, 1982, Susan married Brian S. Abramovitz in Manhattan, Kan. He preceded her in death in 2014. She was also preceded in death by her father.
Susan is survived by her mother, Joanne Barkyoumb of Manhattan, Kan.; two daughters, Rebecca Sue (Matthew) Benoit of Damar, Kan., and Laura Kay (Andrew) Yunghans of Kansas City, Kan.; four grandchildren, Brooke and Ryan Benoit and Bradyen and Bailey Yunghans; two brothers, Steven (Joni) Barkyoumb and Michael (Melissa) Barkyoumb; and many nieces and nephews in Kansas, Missouri, California and Oklahoma.
A celebration of life will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019, at the R. L. Leintz Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance.
