Nelda Fae Davis was born near Strong City, Oklahoma on July 12th, 1929 to Rosetta (Hensley) and William Thomas Boswell. She passed away at her home in Strong City, Oklahoma on Saturday, April 22nd, 2023 at the age of 93 years, 9 months and 10 days.

Nelda grew up on Dead Indian Creek northwest of Strong City, Oklahoma. She attended school at Strong City until transferring to Cheyenne where she was an active member of the basketball team before her graduation. It was during her senior year that she was married to Weldon Davis at Strong City, Oklahoma. After their marriage they moved to Ryan, Oklahoma briefly before purchasing a farm near Strong City. Together, they took possession of their farm on the day their oldest son was born in August of 1948. Nelda and Weldon continued to raise their family on the farm and Nelda became postmaster in Strong City in 1957. She continued her career with the United States Postal Service through the closing of the Strong City Post Office, training the incoming postmaster in Vici, and then becoming postmaster in Hammon, Oklahoma. Nelda continued until 1987 when she retired after a 30 year career. Besides being one of the first woman to work outside the home, Nelda felt strongly about civic duties and it was evident through her work with the hospital board, election board, Strong City town board, Strong City Cemetery board, Washita Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), and the many hours spent working on the Quilts of Valor. Nelda also enjoyed oil painting, water color painting, chalk artwork, traveling and collecting antiques.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant son, Billy Eldon Davis; daughter, Reba Fae Davis; one brother, Eldon Boswell; and a twin sister, Wanda Trammell Purcell.

Nelda is survived by her 3 children, Tom Davis and wife Leala, Yuma, AZ, Jim Davis, Dumas, TX, and Linda Jenkins and husband, Ronnie, Aledo, TX; 4 grandchildren, Emerson Davis, Tyler Davis, Ashlea Quinonez and husband, Juan, and Micah Davis; great granddaughter, Lillian Quinonez and a host of other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, April 26th, 2023 at the Cheyenne First Baptist Church at 1:00 P.M. officiated by Brother Jason Holland. Private family burial will be held at Strong Cemetery under the direction of Chris Whinery and the staff of Affordable Cremation Service-West.
