Letter from Margaret L. Mitchell to Oran E. Shepherd of Adair, Iowa, dated Feb 8, 1931 (grand-daughter of Asa Shepherd): "...Uncle Peter and Aunt Rhoda and Uncle John and Aunt Celia lived near us in Crawford Co., Ills. near Robinson where many of the Shepherd lived but afterwards moved to Iowa..." Settlement of estate of Peter Burr, 1851: "...John Downey and Celia Ann Burke Shepherd (an heir at law of Chloe Shpeherd late of Montgomnery County, Kentucky, deceased) of Crawford Co., Illinois..."

Elijah Downey (farmer, 32) and his household are the preceding entry on the census.[4]
