He was known as "J.W." People called him, "an outdoors man," as he loved to hunt and fish.

When he was a young man, he left Kentucky and moved to Cincinnati. He first worked as a schoolteacher. He later became the vice-president of an air conditioner and refrigeration company in Cincinnati called Rash-Saville-Crawford, Inc.

He first married Pauline Kane, on May 6, 1930. She was the daughter of James Kane and Josephine Perkins. John and Pauline had a daughter named Helen Carol, who was born on January 1, 1934. They lived at 3205 Glenmore Avenue.

In early 1947, Rash-Saville-Crawford hired a secretary named Callie Bach. (She was then married, but separated from her husband). John and Callie soon started an affair, which lasted for several years. Callie went to work as a secretary for her son, in 1957. But it is believed that her affair with John continued, even after that. In fact, John even went on hunting trips with Callie and her son.

John and Pauline got divorced, on 11-14-1951, which was just two weeks after his secretary Callie Bach was served with divorce papers from her husband, Troy Bach. However, John and Callie never got married. The reason for that is not known. As part of John's divorce from Pauline, their home at 3205 Glenmore Ave. was sold at a sheriff's sale.

Instead of marrying Callie, John married a widow named Helen Lauxterman Ewald, in 1955. Curiously, she had been a secretary for another HVAC company for many years, called the William D. Kuhlman Company. John's daughter Helen, from his first marriage, was then 17 years old, when he got remarried. It is not believed that his daughter got along very well with his second wife.

On 1-17-1956, John''s second wife Helen bought a house, as Helen Ann Rash, at 1274 Amberwood Ct. That was where she and John then lived. In 1958, the president of Rash-Saville-Crawford, Mr. Ruel M. Saville, retired, and so John Rash then became the president.

John Rash died of a heart attack, right after he finished playing a round of golf at the Clovernook Country Club, on June 4, 1960. In fact, two other men in Cincinnati died that same weekend, after playing golf.

John's daughter Helen sued his second wife Helen, asking that his will be set aside. The reason for that is not known, and the outcome of that lawsuit is also not known. Apparently, his daughter was not happy with the terms of his will.

Shortly after his death, his second wife Helen took over as president of Rash-Saville-Crawford. She continued in that role, until she retired, in 1965. She died in 1966.
