BRONTE - Kenneth Dwain Pruitt was born Jan. 30, 1925, just east of Bronte, Texas, to NOAH PRUITT & ELLA (WARNER) PRUITT . He attended school in Bronte and graduated from Bronte High School in 1943 and on Oct. 6 of the same year joined the United States Army. After a brief induction and training at several military bases, he served with the 20th Armored Division crossing Europe during the duration of World War II. Toward the end of the war, his Division participated in the liberation of Dachaeu Concentration Camp in German. He also served at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, along with his oldest brother during the Korean conflict. After leaving the military, Dwain returned to Bronte where he worked with his father-in-law, Oliver Pittman, for several years. He then worked for several oil and gas refineries and retired from Union Texas Petroleum. He married Mary Lou Pittman in 1946 and they were the parents of one daughter. Mary Lou passed away in 1980. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Bernice Nixon Pruitt; his oldest brother, Noah Pruitt Jr. of Hot Springs, Ark.; one sister, MAXINE (PRUITT) LABENSKE and husband BILL LABENSKE of Bronte, Texas. One brother, Donald Francis Pruitt, preceded him in death. He is also survived by five daughters, Suzanne Pruitt Hooper of Denver, Laura Brown and husband Charlie of Winters, Valarie Sharp and husband Don of Robert Lee and Leslie Nixon Knaub and husband Eric of Fort Meade, Md., and Donna Weatherby and husband Gary of Miles, Texas; and one son, Gary Lynn Caffey of the home; five grandsons, Justin Hooper of Salt Lake City, Lance Brown of Marlow, Okla., Aaron Sharp of Robert Lee, Texas, John Burdett of Midland, Texas, and Jason Halfman of Sterling City, Texas; six granddaughters, Starzy Hilliard of Katy, Texas, Brittany Powell of York, Penn., Linsey Watt of Fort Worth, Jamie Pharr of Keller, Texas, Robin Martin of San Angelo, Texas, and Renee Nixon of Grape Creek, Texas; and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at Central Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Services are under direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.
