Phillip Dale Henderson, 74, of Wheatland, Mo., passed away March 11, 2008, at the Golden Living Center in Independence, Mo.

He was born June 27, 1933, in Benton County, Mo., near Edwards, Mo., to Sherman and Delma (Houseworth) Henderson.

He was a graduate of Warsaw High School and lived in Edwards and Warsaw prior to moving to Wheatland, where he had a cattle ranch.


He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served during the Korean Conflict. He had also been a country singer and musician.

Dale taught himself to play the guitar (like his father) and spent time in Nashville playing background in recording sessions and even the Grand Ole Opry. He sang, wrote some songs, and made several recordings, including a song that he sang on one of Nat King Cole's albums.

Survivors include his daughter, Sylvia Burns and husband, Leon of Camdenton, Mo.; one sister, Teddy "Iola" Kurkendoll, of Dayton, Ohio; five grandchildren, Waylon Burns and wife, Melissa, of Camdenton, Nicole Laurin and husband, Nathan, of Springfield, Mo., Willie Burns and wife, Rebecca, of Camdenton, Natalie Tatro and husband, Jonathan, of Camdenton, and Joe Burns, of Camdenton; seven great grandchildren; his companion, Yvonne Jones, of Wheatland, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Wyman Henderson, Gary Wayne Henderson and Vaughn Henderson; and four sisters, Wana Baggerly, Wilma Fette, Glenda Scherman and an infant sister Juanita Henderson.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2008, at the Hathaway-Peterman Funeral Home in Wheatland with Rev. Walter Admire officiating. Burial will be in Cable Ridge Cemetery in Edwards, Mo.
