James Marvin Ward, 92, of Wilmington, North Carolina passed away on Thursday, April 20th, 2023.

Marvin was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a doting great-grandfather. His greatest joys were his children, his grandchildren, and the newest member, his "little buddy", his great-grandson.

Marvin was born in Alamance County, Burlington, NC and later his family moved to Brunswick County where he lived for his young adult life. Marvin left Brunswick County to serve in the Navy for four years. Afterwards, he moved to Wilmington where he met the love of his life, Retha. They were happily married for 66 years and raised two amazing children, Jimmy and Beverly.

Marvin was a member of Wilmington First Pentecostal Holiness Church for 61 years. He served several roles in the church such as Deacon, Usher, Sunday School Treasurer, and Cub Scout Master. Marvin faithfully served God and his family in everything he did. He never met a stranger and was beloved by many. His contagious smile will be missed tremendously.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Retha, one daughter, Beverly Arnold, two grandchildren, Hilary Uggla (Chris), Jamie Arnold, and his great-grandson and namesake, Connor Eriksson James Uggla. Marvin is preceded in death by his parents, Burris and Alma Ward, brother, Frank Ward, and son, Jimmy Ward.

An open visitation will be held Tuesday, April 25th at 10:00 AM and will be followed by a service at 11:00 AM at Wilmington First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 2901 Chestnut Street Wilmington, NC 28401, with Reverend Paul Evans officiating. Graveside service will be held immediately after at Greenlawn Cemetery, Wilmington, NC with Reverend Paul Loftin.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Marvin's memory to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare and Wilmington First Pentecostal Holiness Church.
