Herman wrote this for his 50th Class Reunion in 1990:

Attended School of Engineering in Milwaukee after graduation; followed by 1 year of working at Allis Chalmers Super Charger Plant. Spent 3-1/2 years in Navy during World War II. Discharged 12/31/45. Married to Odelia Ulwelling on 10/16/46. Owner and operator of blacksmith shop in Adams from 1947 to 1973. In 1968, suffered an explosion which broke both legs, which led to pursuing a new occupation in counseling. In 1973, developed and managed a halfway house for chemical dependent adults in Austin. Also did the same in Eau Claire, Oshkosh, and West Salem, Wisconsin. Started working at Sears in 1989 in LaCrosse, WI, and in Coon Rapids, MN, in 1990.
