Norma Drake, 87, of Granby died, 4:22 a.m., Thursday, March 13, 2008 at a Joplin nursing facility. She was born Norma Fullerton, March 1, 1921 in Granby to Manzel and Sarah Laduska "Duck"(Capps) Fullerton; her brother was Ragnal Arthur "Art" Fullerton, who died April 4 1985.

Norma attended Stella schools, graduating in 1939. She graduated from Joplin Junior College in 1942 and from Pittsburg State Teachers College in 1957. In 1965 she received her Master's Degree from Kansas State College of Pittsburg. Norma loved teaching and taught school from 1942-1984; retiring from Kelsey Norman School. She was an excellent student and expected the same of her students.

Norma married Norman Drake on Dec 27, 1941 and they have three daughters who survive, Carol Jean Humphrey, Linda Hobson, and Janet Kirk.

Norma and Norman enjoyed many years of raising quarter horses, pintos, and paints. She was the Ozark Quarter Horse Secretary in the 1960's. Horse Showing Western Pleasure was a family affair for the Drakes. Norma handled the details, Norman and daughter, Janet rode the horses, winning many trophies and awards over the years. Together they raised dozens of winning horses, including three world champions.

Norma and Norman were inseparable, living almost 50 years on the same farm. Norman died on December 23, 1999 and Norma missed him dearly; now they are together again.
