Fred Weick was an aviation pioneer as stated on his monument. Mr. Weick was a contemporary of Charles Lindberg and Emalia Earhart and one of the first engineers hired by the U.S. Air Mail Service. Weick designed the Ercoupe, an airplane with integrated controls and tricycle landing gear which would become standard on most airplanes built. 6000 Ercoupes were built in the 1930's and 1940's of which half were still flying at the time of his death in 1993. Weick would complete his career at Piper Aircraft in Vero Beach, Florida working past his 70th birthday. While at Piper he helped develop agricultural aircraft and was a co designer of the Piper Cherokee single engine airplane introduced in 1957 still being built in 2008.
