Emma Gene Weiss entered eternal life on Monday, April 17, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Isaac and Mary Myrtle Mott, and siblings: Irene, Grace, Bonard, Marguerite, Vernon, Mae, and W. I., Jr.

She is survived by children: Debbie, James "Bubba", Mike (& Jeanie), and Craig (& Darla); grandchildren: Amanda, Kyle (& Chasity), Marissa, Matt, Kendall, and Kailey; and great-grandchildren: D. J., Raylee, and Aerowyn.

Emma Gene (Mom) was born Sept. 24, 1925, in Manor, Texas, and she lived in or near Manor her entire life. After graduating high school, she worked at T. H. Williams, a popular downtown Austin dress shop, and evidently spent her paycheck there. Mom often said she should have saved that money, but then again, she really enjoyed dressing sharp. Later on, she ran the elevator at the Texas Highway Department. That should give us all a clue about how far back in time that was.

On June 2, 1955, Emma Gene married Kermit, the love of her life. She used to say she chased him until he caught her. They were happily together for 60 years, until his death in 2015.

Anyone who knew Emma Gene knew she was a hoot. She loved to laugh, dance, sing, and generally have fun. Mom's gift was her uncanny ability to bring joy to whomever she met. No matter where she was, whether Walgreens, HEB, or the post office, Mom would smile, laugh, crack a joke, and basically brighten the day of others. One friend described her as a "joy bomb." If Mom were a light fixture, she'd be a disco ball.

Emma Gene was also a wonderful cook and baker. Her homemade chicken salad and pimiento cheese sandwiches, chocolate cake, chocolate and lemon pies, and her grandchildren's favorite, oatmeal cookies, were "to die for." Sugar was one of Mom's best friends.

Mom lived a simple, but rich life. She loved God, her family, and others, and she enjoyed the simple things in life. We will sorely miss her bright smile and infectious spirit, but I know heaven just got a big bright ball of life the moment she passed into eternal life.
