Ada Louise Short
Mrs. Ada Louise Short, age 87, of Newark, DE, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at Christiana Hospital surrounded by her beloved family and her pastor.
Born in Tazewell County, VA on May 28, 1920, Mrs. Short was a daughter of the late Allen Bowman and Ethel Payne Bowman. She was a talented homemaker and dedicated her life to caring for her family. A devout Christian, she was a longtime member of Northeast Christian Church in Middletown. Mrs. Short was a member of the Women's Club of Delaware in Wilmington, where she enjoyed attending meetings and club functions with her good friend, Betty Novak. In her leisure hours, she looked forward to dining out with family and friends and shopping.
Her beloved husband of 68 years, Thomas L. Short, died in 2006. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Junior Bowman, and a sister, Margie Kirby.
She is survived by her 2 sons, Claude E. Short and wife, Mickie, of Bear, DE; and Charles "Chuck" L. Short and wife, Marlene, of Bear, DE; 2 brothers, George Bowman of Tazewell, VA; and Edward Bowman of Rural Retreat, VA; 3 sisters, Elizabeth Dalton of Rural Retreat, VA; Hazel Moore of Abbs Valley, VA; and Janet Weeks of Beckley, WV; 7 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday, March 17, 2008, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE, where friends may call after 9:30 am. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in memory of Mrs. Short to Northeast Christian Church, P.O. Box 416, Middletown, DE 19709.
