MRS. DOTTERER DIES FOLLOWING INJURIES (1912)

Mrs. Mary Dotterer, wife of C.W. Dotterer, died Tuesday morning at 3 o'clock from injuries received in a run-away accident Monday morning. At first it was not believed that Mrs. Dotterer was fatally injured but towards the last all hopes were given up for her recovery.
The accident occurred southeast of town near the Fulton farm. Mrs. Dotterer and her daughter were driving their big gray driving horse, known by sight to almost everyone in Harper. The animal had always been considered safe and the occupants were taken by surprise when he became frightened and ran to the side of the road. The buggy hit a post and both Mrs. Dotterer and her daughter were thrown out. Mrs Dotterer was rendered unconscious and medical aid was summoned at once. It was found that both her arms were broken and her head and back seemed badly bruised. There was a bad cut on her face and her eyes were both blackened. The young lady was also quite painfully hurt but not seriously. Mrs. Dotterer was a good woman, a member of the German Apostolic Church and loved by everyone who knew her. She had reached the age of 68 years, 6 months and 12 days.

The funeral occurred Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the Apostolic German Church in this city. The services were in charge of Elder G. Kurz of Burlington, Oklahoma and Rev. Fred Domnick of Harper, Kansas. Those in attendance from a distance were Paul Renollet and wife and son and John Oden and wife of Sterling, Kansas; A.J. Dotterer of Chicago; Rev. Kurz, Rev. Miller and Jake Zehr and wife of Burlington and Joe Smith and wife of Texas county, Oklahoma.


OBITUARY

Again death has appeared in our midst and remove from the presence of husband, children, and friends one of the dearest, noblest wife and mother.

Mary Renollet was born in Henry County, Ohio September 26, 1843, passed away April 9, 1912. She moved with her parents from Henry County to Paulding County. She was married to Chas. W. Dotterer, October 26, 1867, and to this union twelve children were born. Two sons Daniel and Edward live near Burlington, Oklahoma; Mrs. Margaret Smith, Kuhn, Oklahoma; Andrew J. Dotterer, Chicago, Illinois; Mars Frances Maninger, Mrs. Ruth Bear, Mrs. Amanda Renollet, Bertha Dotterer, Theo. Dotterer and Chas. Dotterer live around Harper. Ten children and father live to survive her. Twin sons, Solomon and Noah have preceded her. Noah passed away while yet an infant, and Solomon died of a wound received in the Philippine war. In 1882 she moved with the family from Ohio to Sterling, Kansas. Resided there until 1888, when again she with the family removed to Harper, Kansas, where she lived until her death. Her views of life were "Do the Right"; She deprived and bestowed herself to husband and children with a lending hand, tender care, love and comfort that could be expected of the very best of mothers. In the year 1874 she was baptized into the German Apostolic Church. Her Christian life was one of a faithful struggle, though the was was narrow she strived to seek the gain of the blessing in the great beyond.
We loved her, yes we loved her
But angels loved her more,
And they have sweetly called her
To yonder shining shore.

The golden gates were opened
A gentle voice said "come"
And with farewells unspoken
She calmly entered home.

All the children except Mrs. Joe Smith were able to be here. A number of relatives and friends followed her to her last resting place which was maid in the German cemetery.
