Virgil attended and graduated from Fort Jennings High School. He was an over the road truck driver for 48 years. Virgil was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Columbus Grove and was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 370, Lima. Virgil loved the outdoors and liked to travel and "see the sights". Virgil was a friend to everyone he met. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and his "grand dogs".
Virgil is survived by a son: Brent (Amy) Calvelage; and a daughter: Nicole (Kevin) Erford. He is also survived by two brothers: John (Sharon) Calvelage and Joe (Donna) Calvelage; three sisters: Ruth Miehls, Janice (Denny) Wehri, and Joyce Grote; and four grandchildren: Ava Calvelage, Briggs, Raegan, and Lincoln Erford.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Henrietta Calvelage; his in-laws, Edmund and Dolores Schroeder; and a brother-in-law, Earl Miehls.
Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Columbus Grove with Father David Ritchie officiating. Burial to follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, LLC, Columbus Grove with a rosary service at the close of visitation on Tuesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to Putnam County CAP or Putnam County Hospice.
